[$ var $] and req_rec

Hi.
        I'm having problems using [$ var $] and $req_rec together.

Specifically, if I do:

  [$ var $foo $]

  [- $req_rec; -]

embperl isn't happy, and wants me to declare $req_rec with [$var$] too.
But it doesn't seem to do this for other members of the class of 'predefined
variables' such as $escmode or %fdat.

What am I doing wrong?
