Thanks - would this be slowing Embperl 2 down? The performance improvement
I'm seeing on more complicated parts of the site is about 10% which, while
significant, is a little less than I was hoping for.

This are some debug message for me. They will go away with the next release.
Until then setting EMBPERL_LOG to /dev/null should make Embperl stop from
logging, but you have to make sure that EMBPERL_LOG is set _before_
Embperl.pm is loaded into memory. So just move the PerlSetEnv EMBPERL_LOG
/dev/null before any other Perl directive in httpd.conf
