1.3.5 : still make test pb on RedHat 8

1.3.5 has the same problem as 2.0beta on RedHat 8:

make test fails with

[-1]Malformed UTF-8 character (overflow at 0xc41461c8, byte 0x09, after start byte 0xff) in pattern match (m//) at test.pl line 1128, <F1> line 2.
[-2]Malformed UTF-8 character (unexpected end of string) at test.pl line 1136, <F1> line 2.
etc...

Gerald says it's because RH8 thinks it's UTF8 while it's binary data. RH8 is reported to cause some problems because it's UTF8 only - but I still don't know wheater the correct solution is to wait for new Embperl, recompile Perl on RH8 from sources, reconfigure RH8 or just forget about RH8 altogether. Any advices?
