I think you're confusing how some people use the system with the system itself. You can write a great thing, but it doesn't mean people will always use it correctly. I know from personal experience using the SourceForge bug tracking facilities in a team project that spanned NYC, London and over 20 people (developers, testers, managers etc) that it was extremely useful. Being able to see what has happened with a particular bug, what state things are in, what high priority issues are outstanding - these are truly useful tools. To say they are useless just because you've had some bad experiences with their use in the wild isn't really fair, imho. I'm not looking for a program or technology to fix things, so much as help get a grip on what's going on. What happened with that bug I told Gerald about three months ago? Maybe he emailed me, maybe not... I have to dig through emails to find the original thread. Then things get submitted multiple times. I have no idea what the state of that bug is now. If I could look it up and see how he classified it and that it is now ready for testing, that would save a lot of time... By the way, if people (and Gerald) thought it was a good showcase for Embperl then I'd be willing to knock together a bug tracking system in Embperl myself. Anything to get the ball on the road. I agree, tools won't solve the problem, people will. But tools can help... We have to get Embperl more visible "out there", particularly in the mod_perl community. I recently bought a book, "Practical mod_perl" (O'Reilly), and Embperl isn't even in the index! But there is an entire chapter on Template Toolkit and another on AxKit. Hell, I'm even mentioned (my spambot trap has a box on page 214, under restricting access to your server)... but no Embperl. Embperl has the potential to be THE template toolkit for Perl and the Web, particularly with its recipes and XML handling (which I admittedly have really not delved into much). Anyone who wants to see what I've done with Embperl is welcome to visit my pages: http://www.neilgunton.com http://www.crazyguyonabike.com I'm also developing my "big" project, Nilspace, using Embperl extensively. /Neil p.s. Ruben, I CC'd you on my last email, and it got returned with a rather rude (automated) message, telling me to go fornicate myself. Perhaps your spam blocks are a little too, uh, enthusiastic? I'm fairly certain my email server has never been an open relay... --------------------------------------------------------------------- To unsubscribe, e-mail: [EMAIL PROTECTED] For additional commands, e-mail: [EMAIL PROTECTED]
