Just to keep everyone informed... With some Angus' help, I recompiled "testing" version of libhtml-embperl-perl and libapache-sessionx-perl on Debian stable.
Then I installed them, and modified my code to use $req->Escape(). Everything seems to work fine. Thanks for your quick and accurate answers.
