It is a matter of time.  I _will_ be doing the FPGA conversion to
support step/dir - I need it for my own CNC project.  But at the 
moment I am working (along with most of the other developers) on
getting EMC 2.1.0 released.  After that I want to get my machine 
running with software step/direction, before I dive into the FPGA
work.  It will be a few months.
