4) He wants to run EMC, but he prefers FC3 to Ubuntu, and he may prefer
RTLinux to RTAI.

EMC2 is Free software, and we don't intend to force anyone to run a 
particular distribution.  But we can only provide pre-patched kernels 
and detailed support for a limited number of platforms.  When it comes
to patching specific kernels/distros, we are not the best source of
information.

Our RTOS compatibility layer, RTAPI was designed to work with both RTAI 
and RTLinux.  But the last version of RTLinux that it was tested with is 
quite old, and there are no guarantees.  (RTLinux has gone commercial, 
and their GPL branch is languishing - that is the main reason most of 
use use RTAI instead.)  Patches for GPL RTLinux will be gratefully 
accepted.  Support for commercial RTLinux isn't very high on the 
priority list.
