The original reason for this has long disappeared from this 
thread. I had some interest in doing Fourier analysis on the 
real-time velocity information in the encoder samples.  I wanted 
to check my theory that the (double) quantization effects of the 
periodic sampling of the encoder counter will show a really high 
energy content at 1/2 the sampling rate.  Other than that, I'd 
like to see what the power spectrum looks like at frequencies 
just below half the sample rate.  That would be real useful to 
know before trying to design a digital filter.

I do know how to capture the screen image - very simple, but it 
doesn't turn it back into numeric form.
