I think if you feel strongly about this you should submit a bug-report. (that way it gathers data, and doesn't get forgotten). Fixing only the starting of the spindle is something not that complicated (I think, without trying). It's mostly in emctaskmain, but I think lerman is already looking at it. I'm not sure how other modal-codes could/should be treated.. I mean the coding is pretty simple, but the implications are kinda big.
