Do you have the paper (PDF) which discusses how it works? If not I will track it back down and email it to you.
On a side note, I wrote a simple Bezier->2.5D NURBS converter for testing. I may have found a bug, but I will want to play with it some more to make sure. If I have, then I have a very simple box made from something like 20 bi-arcs that do a funkidelic foxtrot around the expected path. I just had one of my machines shipped to me so I can actually test this...
