Install a .desktop file in /usr/share/applications. You can see the
ones that emc2 installs in a cvs checkout at
debian/extras-Ubuntu-8.04/usr/share/applications
The file
debian/extras-Ubuntu-8.04/usr/share/desktop-directories/cnc.directory
is what causes the CNC folder to appear at all in the Applications menu.
Probably you should rely on emc2 to install this file; if more than one
package installs that file, then the packages can't be installed at the
same time.
