I used iosh a lot years ago and it is way out of date. In fact, my coffee pot timer took on new life after iosh became available. These days iocontrol and a couple other HAL modules allow much easier access and connectivity for the things that iosh did. Iosh sort of followed after bridgeportio and minimillio (also long gone) but allowed a bit more accessible customization for those of us that were "C" ignorant. The only downside I see coming from the newer systems is that they seem to promote a bit less awareness of the unique command, status, and message structures that exist in that part of the EMC code.
