On reflection, the second 8 columns of the LUT are redundant in the bipolar case as the reverse pattern is just the inverse of the forward pattern, and the end result is just a sign-swap of the outputs. The direction pin is also not strictly necessary as there will be a clockwise and anticlockwise pattern in the table for any valid Hall positioning. However it is probably worth keeping it to save users from having to carry on looking once they have found a valid pattern.
