Well, it depends. However, IMHO, most modern AC servo motors are better than
open-loop-steppers.

What's the model/brand for your AC servo motors?
You could obtain a copy of user manual for those AC servo motors. So that
you could confirm if they could take pulse commands, as well as the pulse
modes they support (step/dir or quadrature modes).
