I'm working on installing EMC with Arch linux, and ran into this problem
when running emc:

$ emc
EMC2 - 2.4.5
Machine configuration directory is
'/usr/share/doc/emc2/examples/sample-configs/sim'
Machine configuration file is 'axis.ini'
Starting EMC2...
insmod: error inserting '/usr/realtime/modules/rtai_shm.ko': -1 Invalid
module format
Realtime system did not load
Shutting down and cleaning up EMC2...

So, I've compiled & tested the patched kernel. I've compiled and installed
RTAI, and verified that the latency test runs. I compiled and installed emc.

I'm guessing that I misconfigured the kernel, but don't know where to start
looking. I see lots of info about this process online, but much of it is out
of date.

Where would I find the most up-to-date instructions for configuring the
kernel, rtai, and emc so they will work together?

For the most part, I followed the instructions at

http://neo-technical.wikispaces.com/emc2-arch
<http://neo-technical.wikispaces.com/emc2-arch>
I think they're basically correct, though they did contain some errors and
omissions.
