I'm happy to report that your _setup saving suggestion seems to work fine - with a minor twist: _setup.file_pointer may *not* be saved/restored so as not to disturb the file close/reopen logic of o-word calls or else execution fails at the next close/reopen with an invalid FILE*, other than that it does the trick it's not even necessary to make _setup an instance attribute of all my stabs at the problem this is the minimally-invasive one; I need to turn to cleanup and regression tests now but it looks fine so far thanks for the hint -Michael ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ Special Offer-- Download ArcSight Logger for FREE (a $49 USD value)!
