you're spot-on, that scenario broke my patience.

beyond that, it enables subroutines which dont rely on context assumptions, and 
dont violate caller assumptions.

For instance, it would allow me to use g-code subroutines from folks from the 
colonies without rewriting everything to metric - I add M70/M71 and check 
wether there's some global state I just need to have retained; other than that 
I'd be safe whatever is in the sub
