re "separate from emc" - well, the interpreter could close the sqlite database after each T/m6/m61/offset setting operation, it's a low overhead thing so in theory it should be accessible from a third-party process even while emc is running
re tool holder separate from tooling: a given tool would be in certain holder at any time so the holder would still be a property of the tool (?) I'm unsure how the toolholder property would be used for; I can imagine driving a 'requires/does not require a tool length measurement' re two heads: I'm running out of imagination; how does one drive a 'dual head machine' with EMC? any examples? btw while at it: tool wear fields - important? number of loads, total time loaded while interpreter runnning, anyone dare to compute cutting distances? -m Am 26.04.2011 um 11:54 schrieb Dave Caroline: > I too did think of a database for tools some time ago but kept quiet iirc. > > There could be the option to have tool holder being separate from > tooling on the holder so offsets can be summed. > > This is more obvious if you think shaft and spacers on a horizontal > machine and cutters with their own offset from mounting edge to > cutting edge, or for a gear milling cutter, its centerline from > mounting edge. > > If you have two head using one changer, and tool IDx is currently in > spindle one and spindle two then needs to wait till one has got to the > next tool change. > So should the tooling db be separate from emc so different machine > instances can call up tooling, that would also enable tool setters to > measure tooling and enter to the database. > > Dave Caroline > > ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ > WhatsUp Gold - Download Free Network Management Software > The most intuitive, comprehensive, and cost-effective network > management toolset available today.
