That makes sense. Thanks for the clarification. The main advantage of the change from version 4 to 6 (for 2.5, it looks like) was to avoid the deprecation warning for version 4 in debhelper 8 (squeeze+, natty+?). If we cared about dapper packages, we might be able to compromise at version 5, but since this hasn't ever come up in the year since I changed debian/compat, I am guessing it doesn't matter.
