Gentle persons: I've been thinking about the problem of EMC2-related material on external sites.
Back when the WorldWideWeb was in its infancy and NIST was extending its editorial policy to cover its websites in addition to its printed oeuvre, it created a standard "external reference" fragment that we were all supposed to use. Say I was on a NIST webpage and I clicked a link to a standard on the IEEE website. Instead of being taken directly to the IEEE site I would be taken to a page that said something like "you are leaving NIST webspace...legal disclaimers...do you wish to continue?" If I clicked yes or waited some period I would be forwarded automatically to the target site. I don't know if this approach is still in use at NIST nor do I know the implementation details but it strikes me that we could take a similar approach with LinuxCNC.org. Suppose a user clicks on a link to an established Emc2-related group (on CNCZone maybe). Assuming it's technically feasible with our site, couldn't we first bring up a page that declares the external site refers to LinuxCNC by its historical name and then forward the user to the target site? I think this would allow us to maintain some sanity on our sites, reduce confusion of the visitors to them, and demonstrate our due diligence. Just my two cents worth.
