Why do you not hang them on USB ?

 Something like a FTDI breakout and then SPI .... if you can find
working examples it's a nice solution, you dont gett the speed of the
parport BUT for temperature there usually is some lag.

 You could also run an 8 bit micro on a serial line :-D ..... it has
AD's .... and DA's .... just a thought.
