I recently got this error too on a new system:
 segmentation $EMCDISPLAY -ini "$INIFILE" $EMCDISPLAYARGS $EXTRA_ARGS

For me the solution was to use software openGL libraries.
http://wiki.linuxcnc.org/cgi-bin/wiki.pl?TroubleShooting#Display_Issues

If that fixes it then you may also try the vesa video driver but thats more
involved.

One note about the software openGL if may make it difficult to Remake the
program.
Occasionally when I merge stuff then remake, make run ./configure.
It seems a dependency in the rules won't let it pass a test with software
openGL.
if you switch back to regular libraries, configure, then switch to software
openGL and make
it all works - just a pain. I can't figure out how to have a debian dependency
rule
that says depends on #1 and #2 packages or else just #3. What it says now is
depends
on #1 package and #2 package or #3.

hope that helps
