I think it was due to the code that copies the sims to the local directory not also copying across the common files in the parent folder. I have a vague memory that someone was looking at it, what version are you running? It may only be a problem with RIP systems too. You will probably find the missing files somewhere if you look ( /usr/share/linuxcnc?).
