Gentle persons:

<note- this question addresses configurations of LinuxCNC itself, not
machine configurations>

I've had a long-standing issue with building multiple configurations of
LinuxCNC using sources from the git repositories which has come to a
head with Michael's single codebase.

What's an economical way to build multiple configurations side-by-side,
e.g., for Michael's code, ./configure --with-threads options rtai,
xenomai-user, xenomai-kernel, rt-preempt-user, rt-preempt-kernel?

Too stubborn to RTFM, I've been using the brute-force-and-ignorance
approach, simply downloading the desired branch multiple times to
different directories, and building a different configuration in each
directory. This certainly avoids cross-contamination but surely I'm
overlooking something obvious.

Here's a chance to teach an old dog new tricks, or even to use some
variation of the old Saturday Night Live News-Update response from Dan
Ackroyd to his co-anchor, "Jane, you ignorant slut."

Regards,
Kent
