The RTAI folks recently released a version of RTAI that works with Linux
3.5.7, and I've made binary packages available for Ubuntu Precise (12.04).

This will let you compile the current git version of LinuxCNC (both 2.5
and master) and run real hardware, on a modern realtime kernel on Precise.

Download the debs from here:
<http://highlab.com/~seb/linuxcnc/rtai-for-3.5-prerelease/>

Install these debs on a regular Precise machine using dpkg, reboot, and
use "uname -a" to verify that you're running the new realtime kernel.
Then recompile LinuxCNC without --enable-simulator and run the tests,
measure latency, and report back!

This is all very early and experimental, so beware of bugs! We'd really
appreciate testing and feedback...
