I just saw this and thought it was interesting:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lego_Mindstorms_EV3

"The biggest change from the NXT to EV3 series is the technology
improvement of the programmable brick. The main processor of the NXT was an
ARM7 <http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/ARM7>-based microcontroller, where as
the EV3 will be an ARM9 <http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/ARM9>-based processor
running Linux <http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Linux>. A
USB<http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/USB> connector
and SD <http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Secure_Digital> slot are new to the
EV3."

We'll have to wait to see if a LinuxCNC port to this device is feasible,
but with the incredible work being done by Micheal and others we very well
may be in the ballpark. I doubt there will be a PRU equivalent, and it is
certainly more costly than a BBB, but it might be a fun test platform.
