Hi folks,

big thank's for all the work you guys do on that nice project.

short my story.
A few years ago I installed emc2 on a computer to drive a home made mill.
It works really great.
Beside of that, lately I'm planning to retrofit some other machines.
There are a few special needs, that may involve some sort of programming.
(I'm familiar with Software developing on booth, Linux for PC and embedded
Systems running Linux or bare metal)
So I subscribed to the mailing list to get updated on what's going on.

After what I'm reading here, I'm sure I have to update my existing machine
first.
Till now, for me it was like, "Never touch a running system", that included
that I ignored ubuntu's update messages that pop up frequently.
But I have to become familiar with the new Linuxcnc, there is no option.

I like to build linuxcnc and if necessary the kernel from scratch.

That's what I have.

Linux emc01.in-nap-sac.com 2.6.32-122-rtai #rtai SMP Tue Jul 27 12:44:07 CDT
2010 i686 GNU/Linux
Ubuntu 10.04.4 LTS

Welcome to Ubuntu!
 * Documentation:  https://help.ubuntu.com/

277 packages can be updated.
238 updates are security updates.

EMC2/AXIS version 2.5.0-pre2-626-g402b6cd

What I'm asking now is, where is a good point to start, and while going giving
some in return to the community?

Thanks Ju
