I have been helping test the mesa 7i80 (ethernet). I started with the RTnet setup but what a pain. Supported nics are very limited. When micges switched to rt_preempt there was a watchdog bug that bit the 7i80 (pun intended..) but through all the testing I don't think I once got a realtime delay erorr - that was testing a few different motherboards. I certainly isn't high performance - latency seems to stay consistently under 100us (hovering around 60-80us). Currently .5 to 1ms servo loops are possible. The thought is with some driver tuning - this could get better.
The machines that I have been testing run overnight without any real time delays - peter has had a system running for weeks.. I think it may work well for now. (pretty darn awesome if you ask me - realtime communication over Ethernet ) sam PS - this would not have been possible without the Unified build. - Thanks to all that have worked on it Michael H, John M, Seb (and those I have missed...)
