For a rear tool configuration, the hardware is easy enough. One just sets the X axis section in the .ini file to have the +X direction go away from the operator position. The other issue is in getting the backplot (Gremlin) to match. Normally the axes on any machine follow the right hand rule: http://linuxcnc.org/docs/html/common/User_Concepts.html#_machine_configurations For a lathe, +X (index finger) points towards the operator, +y (middle finger) points down to the floor, and +Z (thumb) points to the right. For a rear tool lathe, we can rotate the right-hand frame about Z (keep the thumb steady and bend the wrist so that the index finger points away) such that the +Y points up. In the link above, this proved to be too challenging and a left-hand frame was adopted by finding the X axis code and reversing the sense. I think in practice, with front or rear tool lathes, tools are often used on both sides, so the axis configuration may not be all that important. -- Kirk Wallace http://www.wallacecompany.com/machine_shop/ http://www.wallacecompany.com/E45/ ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ Monitor 25 network devices or servers for free with OpManager!
