I think it is useful enough that I have used it. The docs need to make it more clear that the values read are the ones that exist when you press the "run" button. This is as-expected for INI but might be a bit of a surprise for HAL. As a typical use would be to pass a value to G-code from a GUI element this is not normally a problem, it certainly wasn't an issue when I was using it for my Lathe Macros. The G-code only read the numbers once at the start, so not getting updates wasn't even something I noticed.
