A friend and I are configuring a machine and he set up direction of the
axes almost opposite that I do, and once we figured out that was a good
deal of us going back and forth about what is not right was just this.
He said that it is how he set it up and home and would be glad to change
it some something standard...

So when standing in front of the mill, the +X/+Y on the part are moving
right and up (just like a Cartesian grid/chart). In that case, the knee
and x carriage are moving to the left and out towards the front
controls (I call this a tool-oriented perspective).

Then he set the arrows to be interpreted that the cartage and part are
moving left and and up with the left and right arrow (I'll call this a
part oriented perspective).

A couple things came out of that discussion:

What is the standard interpretation of directions and motion, and the
arrow keys?

By effectively rotating the orientation of the axes 180, the back
right jaw is fixed and can become a stable, known (0,0) that can be
recaptured by simply by finding the limit switch and going to a
predetermined offset, and have the part be in the X+/Y+ plane.

The advantage of the other is that the parts look like they do on a
pring X+/Y+ is right and up.

So, what is standard configuration for the machine? Tool or Part
movement?

   Thanks and best regards.
