Two reasons. This is a machine in a public maker space. More often then not a user will want to touch off both X and Y simultaneously. That is two operations (with 3 button presses each) to do in Axis - in glade a single button press. The second reason is that the glade panel we created puts (nearly) all the functions one needs to use in one location.
