The usual answer is the seller want more money but in this case I guess they thought 8 was enough. I guess it is possible to use more than one controller.
My myself chose to write my own stepper generator for micro controller but this is for other reasons. Then I have fixed the decimal to place pulses within servo period it will essentially be as perfect as it become for periodically calculated posistion values.
