Fair enough.  I started spelunking into that (and noted that KDE just 
had a major update and Gentoo wants me to switch to plasma... rebuilding 
into the wee hours...)

Agree to all.  Will look into it as well.  I am concerned that since 
the test suite is not running that the major-caveat == no-worky in that 
env...  Thanks for reaching out.  I had not heard about schroot before.
