If like me, they have a gearbox, and doing so it causes some other "thing"
the they might be upset. But the point is that they have actually messed up
by asking the machine to do something that _they_ have told LinuxCNC the
machine can't do.

So, yes, dropping spindle speed and explaining why does seem like quite an
elegant solution. In my day job we would cal that a "Surprise and delight"
 feature. Most users would thing "Ooh, that's clever"
