Gene, I was trying to do somthing similar the other day so I could
calculate the current chipload and display it. I was getting the current
gcodes using the python interfaces stat.current_gcodes. The problem was
that the codes were not being updated during a running program. On the emc
dev list they said that was fixed in a branch called state-tags, which
should be merged to master soon.

I don't know of any existing Hal pins that have what you want, but since
G20/21 is unlikely to change during a running program it should be very
posible to make a python script that would export the pins you need.

I'd be glad to take a stab at it if you think such a script would be
usefull and there is not a better solution.
