None of that sounds like magic, Lawrence, thanks.  And while I can recall 
it, thank you for the encoder disk code from long ago. With suitable 
mods, its working well on 2 of my 4 machines. The first one has no 
physical room for an encoder, and I used hall effect devices on the 
last, an 11x36 Sheldon.
