I have read that post. The procedure seems to make sense if one was
running a newer mate. Its a build it from source update to glade 3.8.6,
which is all glade 3 based, and its a fairly major project.

By throwing out some placeholder gingerbread in the resultant xml that
glade-gtk2 made, I have managed to get it to work w/o the previously
noted error. And I used it this after noon to locate and make a mounting
plate for the new Omron 1000 line encoder I am going to put on the
motor, using its a/-a, b/-b outputs but retaining the spindle index
pulse. This means I have to do some hacking around in my hal with two
scales and 2 pid's, selected from switches I have installed on the
gearshift knob.

I cut the top out of the motor cover, leaving about 7/16" of the top
around the cutout so I have a place to drill for the standoffs to fix
the encoder the proper distance above the motor.

I've also made some brass standoffs 39.5mm long out of 1/2" hex brass rod
to space the mounting plate above the top of the green motor cover the
proper distance to couple the encoder to the motor back shaft. So I
might be able to finish that tomorrow.

In the meantime, the camera and gladevcp kept on working. Yippee!

Since I sense that a new installer, hopefully based on stretch, is not
that far away, I think I'll toddle along with the camera setup I now
have until then. Learning how to use it needs practiced, a lot.
