I still have no clue on this one, perhaps pstree, which I just installed, might show something. But anything sane related, just locks itself up using zero cpu. That includes gimp which by default, now looks for sane during its plugins scan. And that locks up gimp until I can kill that process, that one is killable but a scanimage -L is there till the next reboot, using zero cpu.
