Which is exactly how I've deduced its off. But I also knew my rigging was
off. I need to repeat it with known errors in the rigging. I had a
drill chuck screwed to the table, and was lowering the tap hat onto the
drill, which looked like it was straight, but was seriously dragging on
the side of the hole it had drilled in only an inch of travel.

My lathe can probably make a decent starter square as I've measured the
bed wear with a laser sighter and corrected that. Make it a thou hollow
on the end so it sits square on the table by its OD. Then measure top
and bottom with a.0001" dial.

Measureing with a square and spacer blocks said it was straighter than a
dial ran up and down a 1/2" A2 rod chucked in the chuck by about 15 thou
an inch. Attempting to tram it shows its off fwd/aft at least as bad as
sideways. But imagine the head trammed, while running up and down a post
thats off a degree. The hole moves slant-ways as z moves. At the very
least, I need a plumb square tombstone. At this point I've no clue if
the bases back face is off, or the front of the post where they mate, or
both is off.

Cheers, Gene Heskett
