I need to look into this further because I'm wrong about something. My 
impression was that /dev/fb0 should always be present if 
CONFIG_FRAMEBUFFER_CONSOLE and CONFIG_FB are enabled, but this is not true. 
Perhaps another config is missing.
CONFIG_FB_SIMPLE is not set. <- This might be the problem.
When I have time, I will confirm this. If this is true, then this config must 
be enabled for systems needing high resolution without GPU support, as well as 
xf86-video-fbdev.
