I just tried reinstalling the english docs on a live-image install, and everything stayed where it was. It's this file which is meant to pick the menu items out: https://github.com/LinuxCNC/linuxcnc/blob/2.8/share/menus/CNC.menu.in It used X-CNC-DOC etc in the Categories to find them.
