I think the format-adjustments between French and English are good to
go. We should just not both edit the English in parallel. My French is
catastrophique but I can read it, so we could have a joint shot at the
first few *_fr.adoc files and so how they go. @pere, instructions from
your side?
Not quite sure I understand what kind of instructions you are looking
for.
Wasn't sure what to ask, either :) Trying a bit harder now:
* What branch should silopolis start with, i.e. preferably the one
that features the changes to the English texts?
The first step for the French documentation is to bring the file
names in line with the English originals, which
<URL: https://github.com/silopolis/linuxcnc/ > branch translate-po4a
started on, but I am not sure if it is complete.
Ah, nice, yes. And this is then something I would like to see committed
back early on. @silopolis?
Next, one ned to
update the structure to make sure docs/po/migrate-translation can
extract as many translations as possible to a fr.po file.
Ok. This is what I just did for the _es files and can help @silopolis to
get started.
Once
migrate-translation we can kep the PO file and drop the translated
asciidoc files, and start generating translated asciidoc files using the
English original and the PO files.
As no-one have shown up to handle the Chinese asciidoc translation, I
believe we just will have drop those and start the PO file from scratch
there.
有没有人愿意帮忙?
This is from https://www.deepl.com . Once I have some more time again,
let us talk to the DeepL folks and choose a language many of us can
passively understand that we do not feature, yet. Like - Italian. And
then we auto-fill the translations to see how good or bad this goes.
Weblate might also benefit from a flag "auto-translated".
And I already had addressed a few. Liked it. Some typos in the English
were already fixed in master when I was about to prepare a PR. I liked
that I can put comments about the original into weblate. Who reads
them? I am asking since it somehow feels wrong to go through a
regular PR for small typos. Someone should collect them and then
jointly push these to master.
Anyone looking at translation comments on Weblate will read them. No
idea who that is. :)
Ah, ok. Still, with all those missing (or not missing?) full stops in
the English I wish we would have someone who chases this up on a regular
basis instead of each of us preparing small time-sucking pull requests
for a triviality.
And, I think I would want to see screen shots because of the line breaks
and the question what should be abbreviated and what not.
These are the program translation updates currently waiting in Weblate
for someone to merge them back into master (from 'git diff
origin/master weblate/master | diffstat'):
