So I need to hack up in hal. or maybe python, something that could take

What two positions? Do do what?
Well, for instance positioning the changer arm, either out of the way or
on the bed inside the mills work envelope, reachable by lowering the
spindle to either pull out or insert a tool, after the ER collet is
loosened. or to bring the tool out so it can be easily changed. And a
second motor would be used to drive a cam used as a tool griper on this
arm. Then a third motor on the other front corner of the bed frame
would be used to move an electrical contact for automatic TLO detection
in and back out of the mills work envelope. Complicated by the ceramic
bearings in this upgrade spindle, so an automatic ground contact must
also be provided. So all 3 would need a "parked" and an "active"
position in a canned driver. Basically home switched at park and run to
active for all 3, vertical space is a limit due to the limited vertical
movement available on a gantry machine, so the tool chuck on the end of
the arm will have to be cam closed to grip the tool. I can design and
print that easy enough but shouldn't figure on a lot of height there,
say 10mm at the most.
I just remembered I have a couple linear slides, 100mm motion drive by a
nema 11 motor that says .6 amps. I could print the front shelf to hold
those. Bought them from a surplus site, w/o a plan for their use and
this just might be it. Ignore that rusty hinge sound, Its just me thinking.
The latest version of the carousel.comp can output stephen position
commands based on selected pocket.
I didn't know that, thank you.
But might be overkill for what you need, or might also be inadequate.
I'll have to see what it can do, but pocket at this genesis stage is my
fingers changing the tool on the end of the arm. An actual carousel
wheel carrying several tools is another horse entirely. Somewhat limited
space too, as this whole thing is filling up a 2 ft x 4 ft table with
the electronics on another 2x4 shelf hanging from the ceiling above it.
Thanks Andy.
Cheers, Gene Heskett.
