Update: I just went for it - as good as I could this means. Debian's build demons are happy (https://buildd.debian.org/status/package.php?p=linuxcnc) so an update of the package should soon migrate to the mirrors - and then to your bare metal machine, I hope :-) The changes I made to debian/changelog and debian/source are described in https://github.com/LinuxCNC/linuxcnc/pull/3377 .
