Technically 2.10 isn't supported on anything older than Bookworm. But
that's unlikely to _suddenly_ be the problem.
You went thru a period around late wheezy or buster I think where the next was going to skip 2. 8&9, and this was last self compiled from that src quite a few years ago. Then you reverted to start the 2.8 series so this 2.10-pre is now several years old, at least 6 or 7. Just barely has some  of Rob's work on the planner. And little kin of the current 2.9.7.  That is the real src of the confusion.  In the meantime I've reconfigured it many times 3 axis or 4 even 5 once.
