I should note, the Gentoo installer is meant to fully destroy the disk and handle all partitioning by itself so a secondary drive is required if you're already booted into a Linux system. Checks are in place to avoid wiping out your current system however making a back-up is recommended, I hold no responsibility for loss of data. A secondary media for the installation can even be a USB stick with a capacity of at least 32GB (16GB is pushing it) but note that it will not be live, changes will be persistent after rebooting.
