Program: Regulatory Environmental Design
Mark Maynard will discuss the growing concern for maintaining and
improving the quality of the environment and protecting human health,
and how Dell Computer and other organizations of all sizes are
increasingly turning their attention to the potential impact of their
activities. Several environmental private labeling schemes have grown
out of this concern as a method for demonstrating awareness of these
concepts. These environmental private-labeling programs award
recognition to products which combine system and component longevity
with the ability to be recycled, provide an opportunity to reuse,
recycle used products or components, and avoid the use of
environmentally harmful substances wherever possible. Four of the
programs are Blue Angel, TCO 95, TUV ECO Circle, and White Swan.
Mark started at Dell in 1988 after several years in the robotics and
video telecom fields. He began as a test and regulatory engineer,
but has been a project Manager for the last three years.
Board of Certified Safety Professionals
Jack Burns will discuss professional accreditation as provided by the
Board of Certified Safety Professionals. This certification, though
not specific to product design safety or compliance, does offer the
safety professional a means to verify professional competence and is
required for some professional activities.
Jack, who is a Product Safety Engineer for Eaton Corporation became a
Certified Safety Professional earlier this year.

We are pleased to announce that Brian Claes, National President of the
PSWG will be here for the October meeting, to be held on Wednesday,
October 16. He will speak about where the organization stands with
it's sponsoring organizations and recent developments from the EMC
Symposium.
Monthly meetings are the last Wednesday of each month (except next
