Dear EMC colleagues on the emc-pstc,

I would like to bring up again the issue of the transition period of the
EN 61 000-3 (harmonics on power lines) Now there are only 10 weeks left
to the end of the year which also ends the transition period called out
in EN 61 000-3-2.
The amendment A12, that extends the transition period to June 1998 so
far is not published in the official journal of the EC.

In Germany, however, it is already published because:
In Germany the implementation of the EMC-Directive is done through
the publication of the German EMV-Gesetz. In the EMV-Gesetz it says
that the applicable standards are published in the official Gazette of the BZT.

In the official gazette you find that the applicable standard is also the
VDE 0838 part 2 which is a translation of the EN 61 000/A12 .

Therefore in Germany the transition period is already extended up to June 1998.

I would now like to know what the situation in the other European countries
is, in which of the EC- countries the extended transition perriod has
been introduced in a similar way through national legislation.

Furthermore, if there are lawyers on this list, I would like to know if
in such case persons living in a certain European country are bound to
national law or to EC-legislation.

Thanks in advance for your input

Rene Charton
