Reply to: RE>Temperature Sensitive Epoxy

Robert,

I do not know any temperature sensitive epoxy. But, around 1977 when I worked
for Xerox Corp. as a product safety/quality engineer in Dallas, TX, I did test
a power supply for BSI. The BSI engineer brought with him an adhesive tape that
indicated a certain range of temperature when taped to
a component like a transformer. The tape changed into different colors
that indicated a range of temperatures which you could compare using a chart
to determine the maximun temperature. The accuracy of the color indication was
from 3 to 5 degrees C different compared to a thermocouple. The engineer 's
name is John Tatum. I do not know that he is still working or retired.
Hope this info helps.

Is anyone aware of a company that make an electronic grade (non-conductive
and non-corrosive) epoxy, that is temperature indicative. I have seen cases
where UL, for example, will apply this substance to the various components
on a power supply during a temperature test. It is my understanding, that
if the components reach a specific temperature, the substance will change
color, or burn-off. Apparently, it will somehow indicate that the component
has reached some temperature anyway.

I am interested in this type of product. If anyone has any information on
manufacturers of this, or products for similar type applications, I would
appreciate hearing it!

Please contact me if you have any questions or comments!

Thank you!
